Mena writes about this piece, 'I wrote this piece during a time of isolation and reflection—a mandated quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic. 'Hasta la Raiz' translates to 'Down to the Roots.' The idea behind this piece was to explore my roots. It originally was meant to be an homage to my family roots, but eventually it became more about emotional roots. My story. My roots. What it feels like right now.'
