Mena, AM :: Voces Que Siguen
Coleman Page Music presents 'Voces Que Siguen' for flute choir by composer Alyssa Mercedes Mena.
The composer writes, ''Voces Que Siguen (Voices that Continue)' was written in memory of the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida. The piece was commissioned by the National LGBTQIA+ Flute Choir, Vincenzo Volpe, and Adrian McGrady. This work honors the lives, identities, and stories of those who were lost. The title reflects the idea that although their lives may have come to an end on Earth, their voices did not disappear. They continue through memory, through community, and through the ways we carry them with us. Their presence can still be felt, reflecting the universal idea that those we have lost continue to live on through us.'
