Saverio Mercadante presents the Trio for Two Flutes and Cello, written as a fantasy on the duet 'Ah! Se poui cosi lasciarmi' from Rossini's opera Moses in Egypt.
In the first act of the opera there is a duet between Osiris and Elcia, one of the most dramatic and expressive points of the entire work, that was reduced and rewritten for different instrumental formations. Mercadante created this version for two flutes and cello when he was 23, just emerging as a compositional star of the melodramatic world.
