Mouquet s main influences were the late Romantic and Impressionistic composers, and these influences were flexed for the Paris Conservatoire's Concours du Conservatoire in 1909. The composer added a little phrase to the start of the piece that says Do you want, in the name of the Muses, to play for us a harmonius air on your flute? .
