Mike Mower presents the Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra, available here in two formats: the solo part with a CD accompaniment of the full orchestral part to play with, or the solo part with a piano reduction.
Mower’s Concerto, in three movements, uses several different flavors within. Big band writing (suitably orchestrated not to overshadow the flute) is paired with jazz, ragtime, latin rhythms and harmonies, a clever 12-tone row snuck within an airforce training chant, and similar ideas to create a virtuosic solo work with engaging musical ideas.
