Many of Mozart's compositions were published in arrangements both during his lifetime and shortly thereafter. Happily, among these contemporary  arrangements there are about one hundred and fifty in which the flute is involved soloistically. The six sonatas contained in this present edition also belong to this category of contemporary arrangements. They were originally written for piano and violin. Around 1800, these sonatas, arranged for piano and flute, were published in Hamburg and Paris. This Universal edition is actually based on a second Parisian edition.
