Muller-Zurich, P :: Capriccio
Paul Muller-Zurich presents the Capriccio, op. 75, for flute and piano.
Written for the 1973 International Performance Competition in Geneva, the Capriccio is a startlingly lush piece. Though the title might suggest otherwise, it actually takes the form of a flexible fantasia - a cadenza-like introduction and gorgeously languorous phrases open the piece, a small cadenza transitions into the vivace capriccio itself (with touches of French throughout), with several more transitions and mixes of and between the fantasia and capriccio.
An unjustly neglected piece, the Capriccio is eminently suitable for recital and competition.
Duration: 8'20. For advanced players.
