MyFife is the perfect instrument for the very beginner. Simple, inexpensive, and unbreakable, it's an excellent first step for anyone looking to play flute. All of the basics of flute playing can be taught using MyFife:

- Breathing and articulation
- Notes (as MyFife uses the same basic fingerings as the flute)
- Music reading and rhythmic development
The fife can easily be taught in a one-to-one, small group or whole class situation, especially in conjunction with Goodwin's The Fife Book.

The simulated Rosewood fife is made with a slightly different resin mix to that of the Matte Black, Ultraviolet, and Sky Blue fifes. This gives it a warmer quality, more similar to the resonant sound of wood. The Black, Ultraviolet, and Sky Blue come with a cloth bag; the Rosewood comes with a faux leather zipped bag.
