Norris Jazz Suite captures the effervescent French charm of Poulenc and Milhaud while bringing the judicious injections of jazz in their own sonatas to full bloom in this large-scale composition for flute and piano duo in true jazz idiom. With subtle references to Earl Hines, Benny Goodman, and Dave Brubeck, the piece is characterized by modal and blues musical ideas, but in a full five-movement concert setting - and, in fact, could be considered a spiritual successor to Bolling s two Jazz Suites.
