Offenbach, J :: Duos: Opus 51, No. 2
Offenbach, J
The vast majority of Offenbach's compositions are for the stage, pointing the way forward to the operettas of Johann Strauss Jr. and Arthur Sullivan. His compositions away from this genre that survive are for his own instrument, the cello, on which he was extremely proficient. Not much is known about these duos, but they show all the characteristics one would expect. Beautifully lyrical melodies soar over gentle accompaniments, musical moods and character are established and then left behind to be replaced by new ones. Both parts share equally in the melodic material, and players of about grade four standard and above should have the skills to tackle these pieces.
For flute and clarinet.
