Fragments archeologiques
Pecou, T

Thierry Pecou presents Fragments archeologiques for flute trio (piccolo doubling flute, flute, and flute doubling alto flute) and pre-recorded sound.

During excavations undertaken this year in 2758, archeologists have discovered two small but amazingly well-preserved discs made of synthetic material containing coded information; these objects most probably originate from American-European civilizations and have been dated by historians to the period at the beginning of the third millennium. One of the two discs contains musical symbols which have for the most part been deleted, but still permit the recognition of a continuous scheme. Researchers have cooperated with a group of musicians to reconstruct music from the fragments discovered on the two discs, thereby permitting us to approach the musical world of humans from this long-gone era. Strangely enough, researchers have established that these fragments display potential connections with two distinct cultures at a great distance from one another: European culture from the end of the twentieth century and the Aymaran culture originating in the High Andes in South America.

Duration: 10'. For advanced players.
