Sergei Nikolaevich Poddubny (born in 1954) is a well-known Petersburg composer, writing in numerous genres and including music for children, chamber-instrumental, symphonic music, works for the orchestra of Russian folk instruments, and music for television performances. Poddubny's works quite often play on radio and television.
The Lyrical Divertissement for flute and piano is rich in melody, which is based on the best examples of Russian classics from Glinka to Prokofiev. His style is distinguished by clarity of thought and emotional fullness of music. This is evidenced by the very names of the parts, addressing certain genres and characters - Introduction, Pastoral, Little Ballerina, Waltz, and Fantastic Procession. Technically, the Divertissement is not complicated and is quite accessible to students of music schools.
