Poulenc, F :: Sonate & Villanelle
Publisher: Ongaku no Tomo
Editor: Shigenori Kudo
Ongaku no Tomo presents 'Sonate pour flute et piano & Villanelle' by composer Francis Poulenc, edited by Shigenori Kudo.
The Sonata for Flute and Piano, FP164, is one of the most important works by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) and one of the most frequently performed works for flute by any French 20th-century composer. The score, first published in 1958, was however by no means the same as the score employed on the occasion of the first performance. Poulenc revised the piece extensively after the first performance, with significant differences appearing between the two scores.
The present edition aims not to reproduce the halfway stage in the compositional process but to recreate the score in its definitive and authoritative version as intended by Poulenc himself.
