The eight pieces in this volume have been selected from the set of twenty which Prokofiev completed in 1917. All of the original pieces, for solo piano, are brief and colorful; many as delicate, asymmetrical and open-ended as haiku; a few violent; some exuberant or witty. Despite these contrasts they are predominantly lyrical in character, and every one is an example of Prokofiev s gift for creating simple but fresh and characterful music.
These arrangements are designed for the student and will serve as a technically and stylistically accessible introduction to Prokofiev s music.
