Quantz, JJ :: Triosonate B-dur [Trio Sonata in B-flat major]

As a composer, Quantz was extraordinarily productive, with an oeuvre consisted exclusively of works for flute. The Trio Sonata in B-flat Major is one of Quantz's more strident, forward works. It is written in 'da chiesa' style (church sonata), the order of movements being slow-fast-slow-fast. All movements have fugal structure and prove Quantz's mastery of the 'strict' style. The composition is outstanding in the profoundness of sensibility of its slow movements, and in the virtuosic elan of its fast movements. For every flutist it is a rewarding piece showing Quantz's compositional ability in its many facets.

The realization of the figured bass for keyboard in this Barenreiter edition should be regarded as a suggestion and represents only one of many possibilities. To this end, an additional separate part for single-line basso continuo is also included.
