While Raines made no attempt to write music of a Native American nature, there is no escaping the influence. Perhaps better described as a distillation of Native American music through the mind of the composer, Kokopelli follows the eons-long tradition of combining flutes and percussion, here having the flutists play simple percussion parts on easily accessible instruments. For advanced performers.
Scored for eight flutes. Contrabass Flute may effectively double the existing Bass Flute part. Flutes II, III and Alto II double on percussion, Flutes IV, V double on Piccolo and percussion. Percussion Required for Flute players: Drum(Bongo), Rattle, Shaker, Tambourine and Triangle. Duration is approximately 9.5 minutes.
