Reach Out
Reach Out by composer Lisa Neher for solo flute. Program Note by the composer: 'Reach Out' is about yearning for human connection. It is about the need to be heard, to be seen, to be touched, to be understood. Large ascending leaps in the melody present that longing, and expressive arpeggios and up and down paint a picture of waves of emotion, surges of happiness, grief, anxiety, and relief. We need one another. Reach Out. 'Reach Out' was written for and premiered by Rayo Furuta in 2020 as part of the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music's 3GLFCAMGigThruCovid initiative, a project to support performers struggling with income loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the winner of the 2022 Flute New Music Consortium Composition Competition. Rose Bishop's performance of the work was released on the EP 'Of Winds and Waves' in 2021 and on her debut album 'Diversions' in 2022 through OddPop Records.
