Czech-born composer, Anton Reicha (1770-1836) was a contemporary and lifelong friend of Beethoven and is now best remembered for his substantial early contributions to the wind quintet literature and his role as teacher of composers Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, and Cesar Franck. As a composer of the nineteenth century, he was well past his time in his experiments with methods of composition; he advocated the use of polyrhythm, polytonality, and microtonal music which did not gain popularity until the twentieth century.
