Reichert wrote chiefly for his own instrument. His best-known compositions are the Fantasie melancolique, op. 1 and the Seven Daily Exercises, op. 5, a set of very useful technical studies. The Six Studies, op. 6, merit an equally important place in the study of the flute. Well-written for the instrument, they address various aspects of flute playing in an organic manner, paying particular attention to flexibility of embouchure.
