Carl Reinecke's 'Flute Concerto in D Major' was written in 1908, at the age of 84! It is dedicated to the Leipzig flutist Maximilian Schwedler, who may have prompted him to write the work. The nostalgic, serene, and elegiac Concerto is perfectly suited to the expressive possibilities of the instrument. It now belongs to the repertoire. The sources for this edition were the first prints of the score and of the piano reduction, the latter done by Carl Reinecke himself.
