Reinecke, C :: Sonata (Undine) op. 167
Sonata (Undine) op. 167
Reinecke, C
The story of Undine concerns the ill-fated union of a beautiful water nymph with a young knight. The tale achieved great popularity in the 19th century and would have been familiar to Reinecke. The flute sonata does not describe the events of the tale. It is allusive rather than narrative. The listener will not derive the story from hearing the music. Rather, familiarity with the story can help performers find the proper spirit and atmosphere for this colorful music.
