Joaquin Rodrigo's Seranata al Alba de Dia [Serenade to the Dawn] for Flute and Guitar was composed in 1982. This duet for flute and guitar is classified as difficult and should be considered for flutists of the collegiate or professional level.
Rodrigo was one of the most honored twentieth century Spanish composers. He was blind from the age of three due to diphtheria and composed entirely in Braille to be painstakingly dictated by himself to a copyist.
The characteristic Aranjuez style of Rodrigo's Serenata al Alba del dia is an idiomatic evocation of dawn, which again summons a surprising wealth of effective imagery from the two instruments.
