Ned Rorem's 2002 Flute Concerto, here presented in a reduction for flute and piano, was premiered by Jeffrey Khaner and the Philadelphia Orchestra to general acclaim. Titled Concerto more for practicality than anything else, the piece is in truth an imaginative fantasy odyssey in six movements, containing an inventive range and variety of textures and colors.
