Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture
The Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla by Mikhail Glinka, arranged for Flute Choir by Matt Johnston. Program notes by the arranger: 'This overture is from the opera 'Ruslan and Ludmilla,' composed by Mikhail Glinka between 1837 and 1842. I first remember hearing it played by an honors band while I was in high school and instantly fell in love with it. Furthermore, there was a movie during that time which featured it as the background music to the trailer, and I thought I was pretty cool for knowing the opera which it came from. The speed of the piece should be very quick and bright, but only as fast as the runs are able to be played.'
