Sancan, P :: Sonatine
Pierre Sancan's Sonatine for flute and piano is the very image of its composer: surprising, sensitive, and possessed of great elegance. It is a virtuoso piece with a unique aesthetic. Born in 1916, Sancan he studied at Toulouse Conservatory and at Paris Conservatory and obtained first place awards in piano, accompaniment, harmony, composition and fugue. Although his fame is largely owing to his career as pianist and professor, he also wrote three ballets, an opera and a symphony. While his compositions are highly sophisticated, most of them (except Sonatine for flute) have been totally ignored.
The new Musique française edition of Sancan’s Sonatine is part of a series designed for students and teachers as well as professionals. These editions offer masterworks in French music, with performance suggestions and historical and stylistic commentary by noted scholars.
Duration: 9’30. For advanced players.
