Satie, E

Erik Satie (1866-1925) is most well known for his Gymnopedies which were a result of his anti-Wagnerian stance. Another side of Satie was the result of his time writing songs and playing the piano in the cafes of Paris. The influence of the 'March King' John Philip Sousa, who introduced Paris to ragtimes and cakewalks as early as 1900, is evident in the first and third songs subtitled 'Intermezzo Americain' and 'Marche.'
