The composer writes, "As the title suggests, 'Impromptu' for Solo Flute should give the effect of an improvisation. Performers might imagine that they are improvising in the compositional styles of composers such as Edgard Varèse, Tōru Takemitsu, Robert Muczynski, André Jolivet or Robert Dick."
