Melusine is a figure of European legends and folklore, a feminine spirit of fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. Daniel Schnyder's work of the same name for flute and piano is a strange, shimmering construction of dark textures, much like the Martin Ballade, that invokes musical idioms from classical to jazz in a dark tone painting.
