Originally for solo piano, the four Opus 90 impromptus were written in the autumn of 1827, late in Schubert s life. This flute edition of the beautiful third impromptu evokes the ending of a prayer written by Schubert: 'Almighty God, plunge me in the waters of Lethe, make me another man, more vigorous and courageous.'
