It was probably Vinzenz Schuster who inspired Schubert to compose the sonata in a-minor. With increasing expressional differentiation of flute-playing on the modern instrument, a welcome and ambitious possibility to enlarge their repertoire is offered by the "Arpeggione Sonata". Edition Zimmermann offers this publication to that end. This edition also includes a revisions report ("Annotations to Edition and Arrangement").
