Zimmermann presents Ivan Shekov's A Heart for New York op. 78 for solo flute from the collection Classics United: Music against Terrorism and Violence. This piece was composed after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and is an expression of optimism and a prayer for the victims. Shekov showcases the lyrical qualities of the flute in all three registers and incorporates flutter tonguing near the end of the piece. For early advanced players.
