Marilyn Shrude presents her Litanies, for flute, oboe, and piano. A large-scale work in a single movement that explores various contemporary writing techniques while always keeping full musical sound in mind.
From the composer:
Litanies is another reflection on my Catholic roots. I always loved the litany (that incessant recitation of name after name of saints to whom we were interceding). We processed while chanting, and the line was often so long that we fell out of synchronization. The front of the line did not know what the back was doing! I tried to capture this intriguing phenomenon - lots of echoing and overlapping - but always continuity.
