Sokolov, V :: Sonata
Sokolov, V
Vladimir Sokolov (born 1931) is a Petersburgian composer, graduate of the Petersbrug conservatoire, where he studied cello and composition. His passion for chamber music extends to a huge chamber output, including string quartets, numerous mixed trios, and sonatas for standard and unusual instruments.
The Sonata for flute and piano was composed in 1988. The main idea of the sonata is the exploration of the flute's features, being able to express dramatic utterances through timbre and other abilities. The two movements of the sonata are in sharp contrast to each other; the first virtuosic, the second deeply and darkly meditational.
For advanced players.
