Amadeus Verlag presents 'Sonate (Franziskus-Legenden)' for flute and piano by composer Walter Kraft.
'Walter Kraft's Sonate for Flute and Piano (St. Francis Legends) was written in 1965. In these five movements, the concertante playing of flute and piano turns into a contest, with the flute and the piano as partly musical symbols of the birds and of St. Francis. The center piece, The Sermon to the Birds, contains - colored and altered in mixture fashion and furnished with ostinato bass figures - the cantus 'Christ is risen.' The work's scales and the material of the latent vertical stratifications reach from Gregorian chant to twelve-tone series, without this always being apparent.
