Edward Staempfli presents the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, here reduced for flute and piano.
Written for Aurele Nicolet, the Concerto displays Staempfli's dark Swiss language at some of it's strangest and most volatile, with quick changes of time signatures, viciously aggressive melodies that flow and decompose through the two instruments, and large virtuosic moments. Divided into several discrete sections through a single movement, the concerto plays with the idea of programmatic ideas before ultimately discarding a sense of program for musical satisfaction.
