Dances on Flowers: Quasi Sonate No. 2 after the fairy tale 'Thumbelina' by Hans Christian Andersen for flute and piano by Yevhen Stankovych. Includes score and part.

Yevhen Stankovych's 2011 Dances on Flowers (Quasi Sonata No. 2), for flute and piano, was written after Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale Thumbelina. Emininently suited to recitals and competitions, Dances on Flowers' inidividual - yet tonal - sound has been well-received.

Dark, strange rolling arpeggios in the piano introduce the flute. The two instruments then converse in thick, uniquely Ukrainian tonal melodies and ideas through the rest of the introduction, until the piece blooms into a delicate tracery of piano obliggato underneath the dancing of the flute. Reflective, beautiful meditation leads into a series of quasi-cadenzas, to end with a final touch of the earlier piano tracery as the flute softly mimics those moving eight notes.

For advanced flutists.
