Suite for Solo Flute

Loudová, I

Czechoslovakia's leading composer Ivana Loudová, born in 1941, entered the third year of the conservatory immediately upon completion of her high school studies. By the time she finished a three-year period of studies she had written eleven compositions, several of which are still in the repertoire, notably the Sonata for Violin and Piano. From 1961 to 1966 Miss Loudová held the distinction of being the first and only female student of composition at the Prague Academy of Arts and Music. Her Second Symphony for alto, choir, and large orchestra, was written as a graduation work. Rhapsody in Black, a ballet, won a prize at the Mannheim competition (1967) and its composer was invited to participate in the Darmstadt, Holland, and Kassel festivals. A student of Miloslav Kabeláč and Olivier Messiaen, Loudová's music shows a thorough craftsmanship and exceptional inventiveness.
