Taccani, GC :: Eyeless Dark
Giorgio Colombo Taccani’s Eyeless Dark was written approximately one year after Restless White for solo flute in 2012/2013, and is five minutes in length. 'There are relations of symmetry and of complementarity with this work. The immediate contrast provided by the deep timbre of the bass flute is further enhanced by the predominantly static and resonant climate, quite unlike the restless mobility Restless White. Just a few sounds are alternated, barely ruffled by small fluctuations and only rarely interrupted by very brief moments of isolated tension. Only in the finale is there an episode of violent assertiveness, characterized by the conquest of the top register of the instrument through a gesture repeated with maniacal energy. However, this is just a short parenthesis, soon closed, and the piece closes, in the few following measures, with a rapid and definitive return to the initial staticity.’- Giorgio Colombo Taccani.
