Fantaisie sur Jean de Nivelle [Fantasy on Jean de Nivelle]

Taffanel, P

From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, and revised by Phillippe Bernold, Paul Taffanel’s ‘Fantaisie sur Jean de Nivelle’ from ‘Opera de Leo Delibes’ is a gem in the flute repertoire. Bernold states, "Taffanel so admired Delibes’ opera that he composed a fantaisie on ‘Jean de Nivelle’ in 1881, the year following the opera’s creation. The ‘Ballade de la Mandragore’ is taken from Act I, the ‘Trio bouffe and Fabliau’ (short fable) from Act II, ‘La Marche des Archers’ (as a prelude to Trio bouffe) from Act III. The Introduction to the ‘Fantaisie’ takes after the beginning ‘Fabliau.’ As always, particular attention must be paid to precision, lightness of articulation, sound and expressions."

Paul Taffanel, ‘Founder of the French School of Flute Playing’ was a beloved French composer and flutist of the 19th century.
