Germaine Tailleferre’s Concertino for Flute and Piano Soloists with orchestra has a curious history. Premiered in 1953 by Jean-Pierre Rampal and Robert Veyron-Lacroix, the double concertino enjoyed overwhelming audience enthusiasm thanks to its French flashiness and melodic charm, only to mysteriously disappear after that premier performance.

In 1997 - half a century later - Billaudot began to offer a tentative version reconstructed from a transcription of the concert tapes, but it was not until 2002 that the original manuscripts were finally found in the collection of the French flutist Jacques Castagner shortly before his death.

We offer this rediscovered version in Tailleferre’s own reduction for flute and piano with a second piano accompanying. This edition also includes Rampal’s written comments and performance notes, approved by the composer herself.
