From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, and transcribed by Philippe Bernold, Paul Taffanel’s ‘Arioso’ (extrait ‘d’Eugene Oneguine’) op. 24 is a beautiful transcription from Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin. Bernold states, "Arioso is a free arrangement for flute and piano  of an air from act 1, in which Lensky, a young Saint Petersburg dandy declares his love to Olga. The piece was composed and premiered by Taffanel himself on February 27, 1888, at a reception in honor of the great Russian composer. ‘Arioso’ requires impeccable  breathing technique and its beautiful melodic lines have that particular vocal quality which characterizes superior flute playing. With the exception of a few added tempo and nuance indications, the flute part in the piano-forte score is true to the original." -Paul Taffanel, ‘Founder of the French School of Flute Playing’ was a beloved French composer and flutist of the 19th century.
