Quartett g-Moll TWV 43:g1 [Quartet in G minor TWV 43:g1]

Telemann, GP

Around 1730 Georg Philipp Telemann composed, for a planned journey to Paris, six quartets for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello obbligato and basso continuo. Having arrived in Paris in 1738 he wrote six additional 'Nouveaux Quatours' featuring the same instrumentation. All 12 works were published by LeClerc and have become known as the 'Parisian Quartets'. Two of them were published in 1930 and 1932 by Maria and Rolf Ermeler in an edition that is still up-to-date today. The new edition presented here is based on the unaltered scores and parts. A new feature are the original gamba parts which differ in interesting details from the parts for cello obbligato. I also added some practice-proven viola parts modeled on the gamba parts (except for a few transpositions to the octave), which may be welcome, in particular, by private music ensembles.
