Telemann's superb duets for two flutes, opus 2, are arranged for C flute and alto flute. Telemann's excellent use of counterpoint, the equality of the two parts, the abundance of ideas, and the overall sheer beauty of the writing have made these duets a longtime favorite of flutists.
The alto plays both the bottom part and, in a second section, plays the top part. Telemann's range (D1-E3) lies very comfortably on the alto. The C flute, now transposed down a forth, plays in many new interesting ranges and keys. The lowered C flute blends beautifully with the alto.
