The arrangements contained in this collection reflect the continuation of two musicals traditions. The first, the practice of which has waned in the past half-century, is that of composers writing arrangements of the music of others. The second is the creation of music for a specific, informal occasion.
In the present case, these arrangements were written for a family Christmas reunion with three flutists who had not been together during the holidays for a long time.
