Becerra-Schmidt, G :: Trio
Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt’s music is infused with the classical flavors of his native Chile, and the Trio for flute, violin, and piano is no exception; clever rhythms, cross-ideas, and mostly-tonal writing abound throughout the three movements.
The first movement, an Allegro Moderato, acts as a standard (yet flavorful) introduction, with a number of cross-themes and almost Martinu-like writing. The second movement is more idiomatically crafted as an adagio, with each instrument taking their moments. The third movement, an energetic Allegro Giusto, shifts back and forth between 5/4 and 6/4 for a driving finale.
