George Tsontakis presents Fervore, for piccolo and piano.
Fervore was commissioned by Susan Glaser and premiered on May, 1992. The title ('fervor') reflects a passionately anti-war sentiment; ironic, since the piccolo (or fife) has often been associated with war and drums. A thoughtful narrative pacing is necessary to put this abbreviated drama across. Markedly, the work is in Tsontakis' distinct, filled with semi-Impressionist textures against which darker sounds coil.
