Fisher Tull presents Fusion for flute, trombone, and piano.
Composer's Notes: In composing this piece, I could not resist the urge to depict a love affair between the two wind instruments. The initials of the performers to whom work was dedicated (G, B & C) served as the musical germ for the entire composition. Throughout this mating ritual the role of the pianist was generally that of a chaperone. The relationship begins with each asserting its own identity: the trombone announcing the pitches G and B, and the flute responding with a C over a three-octave span. The flirtation between the two begins tentatively but gradually develops into several frenzied encounters which are refereed by the piano. This activity leads to an ecstatic climax wherein the pianist retires, leaving the exhausted duo to bask in their restful gestures of fusion.
