Canti con flauto I: Sieben Lieder des 19. Jahrhunderts [Songs with Flute I: Seven Songs of the 19th Century]
Various

The series Canti con flauto offers a representative selection from the substantial repertoire for voice and flute. This first volume contains seven 19th-century songs for high voice, flute, and piano in a critical new edition.

These compositions are settings of what were then contemporary poems of nature or love. The flute often imitates birdsong. From the dedications of original publications of songs by Kummer, Furstenau, Ciardi, and Carte it can be seen that the voice parts were intended primarily for soprano. On the other hand such neutral terms as 'Singstimme' or 'Gesang', 'Canto', 'Chant', and 'Voice', in line with the practice of the time, also allow for performance by a tenor.
