Barenreiter is pleased to present Combocom Blues: 16 Arrangements fur variable Besetzung (16 Arrangements for variable instruments).

This volume covers many small patches on the blues continent, from folk-like guitar to electric blues and jazz combos. It allows you to travel from the Mississippi Delta via Chicago to England and back again. The small entourage of three to five musicians is ideal, as it gives each participant essential tasks and lots of elbow room.

This collection is aimed at musicians who want to play in small groups, from trios to quintets. The scoring is variable; the only mandatory parts are Melody I, whether played on flute or sung, and the first guitar. The second guitar, the bass part, and the drums are optional; when added, however, they thicken the texture with countermelodies and harmonies.

Most of the parts in the arrangements are written out so that even less-experienced musicians will be able to play with confidence. But often the kick of the blues is precisely not to use everything at once; you can enhance through restraint. A complete chorus accompanied only by delicate cymbal work will spotlight the sidemen. Straight quarter-notes on the guitar can be more lively than a busy shuffle. In short - don't be afraid to change things!
