Barenreiter is pleased to present Combocom Irish: 9 Arrangements fur variable Besetzung (9 Arrangements for variable instruments).

As everybody knows, the Irish love to sing. Even today there is scarcely another land that can boast of such a living tradition of folk music - or has incorporated folk music so effortlessly in its popular music. This collection is an attempt to present something from every area of Irish music: well-known and obscure, lively and sentimental, old and new.

This collection is aimed at musicians who want to play in small groups, from duos to quartets. The scoring is variable; the only mandatory parts are Melody I, whether played on flute or sung, and the piano, which may be replaced by a guitar or another chordal instrument. Melody II, with parts for C and Bb instruments, and the cello or bass part, are optional; when added, however, they thicken the texture with countermelodies and harmonies.

Melody I is written for flute, voice, or oboe, Melody II is written for flute, oboe, violin, or clarinet in Bb. The cello part contains bass options, and the piano part contains chord symbols.
